Are you tired of constantly receiving notifications from Facebook on your mobile app and dismissing them? Or perhaps you just ignore all of them only to find that you missed out on someone's birthday or an event you were looking forward to? Fret not, here's how you can tweak the notification settings to suit you best.
With all your family, friends, colleagues and more on Facebook, it can be sometimes hard to keep track of what is going on. That's why Facebook came up with notifications to ensure that you won't miss the important events and happenings in your social network. While the intention is good, what happens is sometimes the notifications from Facebook can get unruly.
The good news is we can actually customise how we receive notifications on our smartphones and claim back some peace and quiet. The control settings are actually buried some where in the Settings tab, so most users don't bother to explore. Additionally, Facebook has been tweaking the Settings menu quietly over the past few months, so it is looking very different from when you've first seen it. Ready to get your hands 'dirty'? Let's dive right in!
- Tap on the ≡ 'hamburger' menu in your Facebook app.
- Scroll down till you see the Settings & Privacy menu item and tap on it.
- Tap on Settings from the expanded menu.
- Keep scrolling till you reach Notifications.
Note: You need to scroll quite a long way down, past Account Settings, Security, Privacy, Your Facebook Information, Ads, and Stories.
Under Notifications there will be 4 main areas:
- Notification Settings
- Text Messaging
- Email
- Notification Dots
- Tap on Notification Settings and you can tweak the notifications that you receive. Just tap on each one to make the changes.
- If you need to mute all notifications, toggle the Mute Push Notifications switch to On but you can only mute it a maximum of 8 hours a day.
- Under Text Messaging Settings you can Remove or Add Phone Number if you have a new number to attach to your Facebook account.
- Tap Edit to change the settings to suit your needs.
- Under Email Notification Settings you can set how you want to receive email notifications. Just tap on the options to choose the settings available.
- Finally, under Notification Dots, you can choose which shortcuts will show the notification dots.
